Maury 3 – Cape Henry 2

On Wednesday, Maury beat a very good Cape Henry team 3-2 and Steven Overcamp wins the game ball for his strong pitching and for a crucial late inning double that scored the winning run. Drew Williams stayed hot at the plate with a double and Brian Bashara also hit a double to aid the cause. The team played good defense all around.

First Colonial 7 - Maury 2

Maury came out flat today against First Colonial and never got it going at the plate against some good pitching from First Colonial's Ryan Cook. However, Maury had a very good tournament and will be back at the regular season games next week with a game at Norview on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.

Maury 10 - R.E. Lee 2
Drew Williams got things off to a good start when he hit a solo homerun on the very first pitch of the game. Unfortunately, Maury ace Cameron Parker hurt his elbow and was lost for the season. Maury batters picked up the slack and everyone is praying for a quick recovery for Cameron.

Maury 13– Norcom 0

April 19th MHS @ Norcom – Pitchers, Steve Overkamp & Drew Williams combined for a 5 inning, 2 hit, no runs, win over Norcom. Overkamp & Williams also hit back to back homeruns in the second inning. Error free baseball and solid hitting was the key to this win, 8 of the 11 batters reached base safely.

Maury 8-1 over Booker T. Washington Sam Warren started on the mound and faced only 9 batters through 3 innings, with 4 Ks. Daniel Aguirre closed 4 innings, allowed 1 run and struck out 5. Maury scored their 8 runs on 7 hits, 5 walks and 2 hit batters. 7 different batters scored. Tyon had 3 RBIs; Drew had 2.

Lake Taylor 3– Maury 2

The game versus Lake Taylor was pretty much a pitchers’ duel with one brief sequence of offense and a great double play on a fly ball to left. Brian started and went 4 innings, allowing only 3 hits—unfortunately one of them was a 2-run HR. He struck out 2 batters per inning. Sam relieved him in the 5th and allowed only 2 hits, the first was the game winning RBI HR. Commodore bats were as anemic as was the defense against Granby—6 hits. In the 6th, Brian hit a ground rule double, followed by an RBI single by Steve (advanced to 2nd on E9), and followed by another RBI single by Tyon. 28 Maury batters went to the plate and struck out 10 times. Play of the game for both sides was the fly out to left which Connor traveled 30 yards for, dived, got up and then threw out the runner on second for a double play. Everybody in the Park, except Connor, “knew” that was in for a base hit.

Next game is Tuesday, May 4th versus Norcom at Maury.

Maury 11 – Churchland 8

Churchland jumped out to a 7-2 lead over Maury but the team fought back behind the relief pitching of Brian Bashara. Brian helped himself out with a two run triple that helped spur the come-back. Sam Warren, Drew Williams, Tyon Ore and Connor O'Donnell also had RBI hits in the comeback. Kevin Radford and Ryan Hess combined for some key double plays and Kevin gloved a shot in the hole at SS to save a run.

Maury 13 – Norview 0

Article in Maxpreps.com:

Maury left no doubt as to who the top team in the Eastern District is as the pummeled contender Norview 13-0 on the Comets home field. Andrew Williams, one of nine seniors on the Commodores roster, had three hits and scored three runs to lead the hitting attack. Maury sent 14 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth, while scoring eight runs, for a 10-run lead.

Williams started the proceedings with an RBI double, the only extra-base hit of the game, which scored Kevin Radford from first. Sam Warren added a 2-run RBI single in the third for a 3-run lead. Williams drove in another run in the fourth and scored a run in the fifth when Maury put 10 runs across the plate.

Senior Brian Bashara pitched a five innings allowing two hits for the win. He also added an RBI single in the fourth and walked two times. Bashara, along with Sam Triplett, have picked up the slack left when ace Cameron Parker went down with an injury. "We're a staff by committee," Bashara said. "We've been getting it done as a team."

Hanover 14 – Maury 11

Maury had a tough 14-11 loss against a very good Hanover team that finished 2nd in the State last year. Maury was either tied or within close striking distance all game. HR's from O'Donnell and Overcamp for Maury and too many other hits to count from both sides of this one. .

Senior right-hander Sam Triplett tossed a five-hitter and Sam Warren keyed two late rallies, driving in three runs for the No. 2 Commodores (6-0) in a Beach Blast victory over host Cox on Monday.
"Triplett stepped up in a big way after we lost our No. 1 starter Cameron Parker to a triceps injury Sunday," Maury coach Chris Howlett said. "He showed great composure against Cox. They're the toughest team we've played."
Warren doomed No. 3 Cox (5-2) with a run-scoring single in the sixth and a two-run double in the seventh. Maury's Kevin Radford turned a safety squeeze bunt into a game-tying single in the fifth inning.

Granby 8– Maury 1

The Commodores had their first conference loss of the season against Granby, 8-1, yesterday. Sam Triplett started and Brian Bashara came in to relive him in the first inning. Brian’s pitching was right on target--two walks, 11 strike outs, and 6 hits. Despite only 5 hits, two each from Drew Williams and Tyon Ore; one by Kevin Cartoski, Maury stranded 13 runners, 9 in scoring position. Pre-season caliber defense didn’t get it done on this Friday.
